Moved to Northern beaches in 1988. Prior to that I worked as a Ship’s Captain at sea.
In 1993 I joined the Sydney Ports Corporation and rose to the position of Harbour Master for the ports of: “Sydney Harbour and Botany Bay”. This is a very senior, government appointed civil servant position, and as a result I am very familiar with the machinery of government i.e. government budgets, government capital expenditure, senior management negotiations.
I served on and chaired some 18 committees associated with Sydney and the 2000 Olympic games.
After nine years with Ports, I joined the TAFE Maritime College in Brookvale where I taught for five years, and as a result, I have become very familiar with the vocational education sector in Australia. I retired from full time teaching at 55 years of age. Since then I returned to sea for two years as ship’s captain. I also served one year relieving as the Head Teacher of the biggest Maritime College in Australia. This led to my employment as an industry expert to assist the Malaysian Government in setting up a new Maritime College in Malaysia. I worked as a part time teacher in TAFE Maritime prior to this election.
